Fun Activities to Teach Kids About Types of Clouds

Cloud Spotting

First things first, take students outdoors on a cloudy day and have them talk about what they see. Have students draw pictures of the clouds and use their imaginations to guess what shapes and animals they see. Once you teach students about the different types of clouds, repeat this activity and have them identify the different types of clouds (cirrus, stratus, cumulus).

Make Cloud Dough

This activity is simple and easy to do with common ingredients found in most kitchens. Just mix flour, water, vegetable oil, and food coloring together to create a dough that looks like fluffy clouds! Let your students explore the texture of cloud dough as they learn more about the shape and composition of different types of clouds.

Cloud Sculpting

Have kids create their own clouds out of cotton balls or other materials like Styrofoam or foam blocks. This activity helps them visualize the different types of cloud shapes and sizes and also encourages them to get creative with their designs.
