Pre-made Lesson Plans and Bartering and Trading Worksheets

First off, what better way to save time than to have lesson plans already written for you! If you are new to teaching, the best advice I can give you is to ditch the 5-page lesson plans you had to write in college. Those are not practical, and you are bound to miss steps in your script.

I like short and sweet plans. A lesson plan should follow the I DO, WE DO, YOU DO pattern. Maybe not every time, but it will help you keep your students engaged. Short lessons and this framework will also build confidence in your students by gradually releasing them to independent activities.

Vocabulary to Teach Important Words

The next part of my economics bartering and trading worksheet pack is all about teaching vocabulary. Vocabulary activities make great morning work activities or early finisher assignments.

Vocabulary is a huge part of my science and social studies curriculum. When I taught ESL students, I quickly learned that a large part of their success in mastering a topic was when I provided lots of exposure to the new vocabulary in a topic.

Nonfiction Readers

Once students have learned the vocabulary words, I like to read them a book or use a nonfiction reader to introduce the topic.

Nonfiction readers make a great activity that students can take notes and learn from.

I like to laminate the cover and spiral bind mine. You can add these to a library or social studies station for students to refer back to throughout the week.

Engaging Economics Bartering and Trading Worksheets

Worksheets can be fun and serve a purpose. I used to teach at a school where we would get in trouble if we had worksheets out. It was HARD!

As a result, I have learned a lot about ways to make worksheets engaging over the years. Activities like drawing comic strips, plays, or acting out a scene, can help students understand how bartering and trading works between two people.

Comprehension Passages

Scarcity activity for kids image

In Texas, one of our TEKS is to cover scarcity. Scarcity is when a natural resource or item is in high demand, which can cause a negative/positive effect on the market.

When teaching kids about scarcity, I keep it simple. I like to give lots of examples. I also use comprehension pages to help students learn through reading and taking notes.

After they complete a comprehension passage, we work on other activities that focus on needs and wants to help students understand when it is important to trade and barter.

Economics Bartering and Trading Quiz and Writing Prompts

At last, are the end of the unit quiz and some fun writing prompts. I love having students draw and write as much as possible. Using language arts in science and social studies is a great way to get it all in!

The quizzes in my economics units are short and simple. The first 5 questions are vocabulary-related. The last 5 questions are content-related and multiple choice.
