Going back to school after winter break is hard! If you know the importance of classroom management, then you will want to spend some time on activities that review classroom procedures after winter break.

It would be great if we could just skip the review session, but kids need a refresher. Adults even need a refresher. Spending a few minutes a day reviewing classroom procedures will help you save some sanity. Here are some easy ways to review classroom procedures with your class.

First Make a List to Reestablish Good Classroom Procedures

My biggest tip for tackling the daunting task of reviewing classroom procedures is sitting down and making a list!

First, make a list of your pain points from the first part of the year. Then make a list of all the things they need to know how to do and how you want them to do it. WHAT, BUT THAT S HUGE LIST YOU SAY! Start by looking at your daily schedule. Then download my free list of questions, so you can get back to spending your free time in your PJs and not feeling the need to pull your hair out.

Next Make a Plan to Reestablish Good Classroom Procedures

First, planning and writing in time to review rules and procedures is key! I have learned back to school after winter break can be overwhelming. If you have a game plan and think through pain points and procedures you want to review, it will help you cultivate a strong classroom management style that students will follow and understand.

Also, give yourself some wiggle room! When you start to review classroom procedures, it’s always nice to add extra stuff to your lessons in case you run out of things to do! If you need some fun activities, my back-to-school low-prep worksheets unit includes fun activities that are perfect for reviewing classroom procedures after winter break.

Review Character Education

In elementary, students build on their relationships with their peers and others around them. Children learn from watching adults and modeling their behaviors. Teaching kids about morals and principles isn’t just a job left for parents alone. Teachers have a large impact on kids’ character development as well.

Teaching character education doesn’t have to take a lot of time or be a difficult topic to teach. These no-prep activities make it easy to review classroom procedures and expectations at the start of the year.

Last: Simplify Your Classroom Management to Reestablish Good Classroom Procedures

CHAMPS Classroom management posters

This tip is a big one for me. When I first started teaching, I had such complicated classroom management systems. So many rules and systems that were hard to keep up with and time-consuming. If you are struggling with classroom management, I highly recommend C.H.A.M.P.S

C.H.A.M.P.S is easy to remember and easy to set up. Students will quickly learn what your expectations are and will know how/what they are supposed to be working on. For an in-depth explanation of it, you can read more about it HERE!

I used a super easy clip-down chart (no, not a behavior clip-down chart!). But a very quick and easy chart that displayed how, what, when, and how your students should be working. It is by far one of the best things I used in my classroom. You can check out the posters HERE!
