Easy December Reindeer Activities Your Students Will Enjoy
The weather is getting colder, and now that Thanksgiving is over, it is time to bust out some fun December theme worksheets. In this post, I will share with you some fun December reindeer activities for second grade that focus on science, reading, writing, and math.
All of the worksheets and activities in this post are from my December Activities: Reindeer Science, Reading, Writing, and Math Worksheets pack.
Reindeer Anchor Charts
The first activities in my reindeer no prep pack are some fun premade anchor chart templates. The anchor charts focus on facts about reindeer, parts of a reindeer, and an easy KWL chart to see what students already know.
I love using templates to help me trace out a chart beforehand. This helps me save time and reminds me what to talk about during our whole group conversation. The best part about these templates is that they come in black and white and can be used as mini-posters or note-taking pages for your kids.
December Reindeer Science
Any time I can use a topic to touch on cross-curriculum themes is a win-win. During this unit, students learn about habitats, diets, and the needs of a reindeer.
Students also learn about migration and adaptations that help a reindeer live in its extremely cold environment. There are a ton of fun worksheets students can choose from to learn about reindeers in this Reindeer No Prep Pack. Some include non-fiction readers, a reading compression page, a mini picture book, facts cards, and more!
Reindeer Vocabulary
Vocabulary worksheets make a great morning work activity to get students ready for the day. Working with words to write sentences and draw pictures helps ELL and struggling students prepare for the topic of the day.
In this Reindeer No Prep Pack, students will learn about the words; habitat, migrate, antlers, herd, coat, hooves, molting, and herbivore.
Reindeer Word work
Also included in my December theme notebook units are word work practice sheets. I used my curriculum pacing guide to help me pick which spelling pattern to focus on in each notebook.
The idea is that by the end of the year, each notebook will include the most common spelling work that a typical second grader will cover. This will help you have extra word work activities to spice up your lessons.
This activity pack focuses on long o patterns and words ending in –ed & -ing.
Reindeer Grammar
Getting students excited to learn about parts of speech is hard. But grammar can be fun if you add a holiday theme to your lessons. Your students will have fun completing activities that focus on nouns, verbs, adjectives, prepositions, and contractions with these no-prep worksheets.
December Reindeer Reading
Also included in my December theme units are several fun reading and writing activities.
The reading worksheets can be used with any book you currently have. The activities focus on the main idea, problem and solution, and theme. There are also fun choice boards where students can pick a book then complete an activity of their choice.
December Reindeer Writing
When it comes to writing students can complete writing prompts that focus on expository, research, imaginative, and how-to writing styles.
The different writing prompts provide fun opportunities for students to practice different styles of writing while learning about reindeer and celebrating December in your class.
December Reindeer Math
Along with science and ELA activities, this reindeer theme worksheet pack includes math! Activities focus on 2-digit addition and subtraction, counting money, and telling time.
There are fun puzzles and math games that focus on reindeer activities for second grade. The best part is that the games and worksheets are print and go. The only extra materials that you need are pencils, crayons, and dice.
